Guided by the essence of Crete’s scenery, this luxury villa in Elounda brings architecture and nature into balance.
Set on a hilltop site, this villa is an architectural dialogue between openness and enclosure, transforming site and program constraints into advantages. Integrating seamlessly into its surroundings, the villa’s green roofs, abundant vegetation, and careful landscaping echo Crete’s iconic natural terrain. Horizontal slabs projecting at various lengths clearly define each floor, articulating the building’s form while minimizing its visual scale. Local materials further ground the project within its natural and cultural context, respectfully aligning the design with nearby developments, ensuring the villa resonates harmoniously within its unique environment.
Each space within the house is deliberately oriented, offering uninterrupted views from every angle. Upon approach, the villa presents bold, closed partitions towards the road, creating a strong, private boundary. Contrasting this solidity, expansive glass openings unfold towards the landscape, harmoniously connecting interior and exterior environments. Movable wooden louvers add a dynamic layer, offering residents complete control over light, shadow, privacy, and openness, allowing the villa’s character to evolve with the changing daylight.
Designed across three distinct, rotated levels, the villa subtly yet clearly defines each floor's privacy and orientation. The upper level, featuring a private entrance from the garage, hosts a luxurious master suite and an adaptable studio. Carefully placed breeze-block walls shield the interior from street views while promoting natural airflow and privacy, simultaneously introducing a playful interplay between openness and enclosure. Entering the main level, guests are welcomed through a monumental entrance defined by a stone-carved staircase, creating a memorable entry experience. Upon arrival, expansive panoramic views of the sea greet visitors, linking seamlessly into a unified living space. Here, the dining room, kitchen, and living area converge harmoniously, providing immediate access to exterior amenities including an outdoor barbeque area, shaded pergolas, dining spaces, lounges, and the infinity pool. The infinity pool extends dramatically from the building, appearing to float effortlessly in mid-air emerging horizontally from the ground, blurring boundaries between structure and surroundings. Additionally, a discreet private office, partially enclosed by breeze-block partitions, maintains connectivity yet offers essential privacy.On the lower level, tucked into the cliff edge, amenities complement two thoughtfully placed bedrooms, oriented precisely to maximize vistas of Mirabello Bay. Each room becomes an intimate retreat, visually embraced by the sea and landscape.
